Like all other businesses that have had to pivot during the coronavirus pandemic, artists, gallery owners and those who support them have also had to innovate. From this creativity, the team behind the Dallas Art Fair has launched a new digital marketplace for contemporary art collectors to discover, connect and buy in galleries across Texas.
Called Cultural place (unrelated to your beloved CultureMap), the site went live on July 9th. It’s a natural extension of Dallas’ first-ever online art fair, which generated nearly $ 3 million in sales for participating galleries over 10 days last spring, according to organizers.
The objective is to support small local galleries in the region which could benefit from greater financial assistance and visibility all year round.
âCulture Place will allow dealers to continuously connect with our collector audience, engage more deeply in conversations about art in today’s world, and facilitate the sale of art when the opportunity for physical engagement has evaporated, âsaid John Sughrue. , founder of Culture Place and president of Dallas Art Fair, in a statement. “We have cultivated meaningful relationships and friendships with our gallery owners over the past twelve years and aim to continue to help them present their artists’ work to the world.”
The market will focus primarily on galleries in Texas, but will also host galleries and programming from neighboring states, they say. Weekly artist studio tours, conversations and other online programs will enhance the site, and galleries will be able to update their work every 60 days.
Collectors can easily search for works of art by gallery, artist, and title, and then purchase them securely through the Culture Place site. The works are shipped to buyers.
âCulture Place is an ongoing digital exchange aimed at promoting a cultural way of life,â said Kelly Cornell, director of Culture Place and Dallas Art Fair, in the release. “We will continue our mission of connecting our audience to an organized offering while showcasing the best of our region.”
